Today we are going to talk about a saga that does not come at the end of hearing. The Mahabharat is not just a story of a Battle, but a collection of mysteries. The story of the Mahabharat begins with Maharaja Shantanu of Hastinapur, who had two wives and had three sons from both wives. The first child was Devavrata who had taken the pledge that he would be lifelong Brahmachari, for this reason, he was known as Bhishma Pitamaha and the other two sons, whose name was Chitrangada and Vichitravirya, both were died before getting the child. After the death of both of them, their wives receive two sons from the boon of a Maharshi Vyas, the first child was Dhritarashtra and the other child was named Pandu.

Dhritarashtra was blind, he was married to Gandhari, who was the daughter of Raja of Gandhar state. Her wife kept a cloth strip on his eyes for the rest of her life so that he could treat his husband’s pain. Gandhari gave birth to 100 children, out of which two are been known to us Duryodhana and Dushashana. All the Gandhari sons were very deceptive since childhood.

On the other hand, Pandu had two wives, one was Kunti and the second one was a Madri. His first wife Kunti had got a boon from Sage Durvasa to invoke any god to bear a child, and even before marrying Pandu, he had received a son named Karan from the God Sun, but worry of what the society would say, she placed the baby in a basket and set him afloat on a river, a charioteer Adhiratha gets him and adopted by him and his wife Radha.

but Pandu died before having any child due to the curse.After Pandu’s death, Gandhari receives three sons from this boon whose names are Yudhishtira, Bhima, and Arjuna. On the other hand, the second wife gives birth to two children, one was Nakul and second was Sahdev. Similarly, after Pandu’s death, he had five sons, whom we today know as five Pandavas.

Dhritarashtra wanted his own son Duryodhana to become king but without his desire, he had made Yudhisthira as King of his kingdom. Gandhari’s brother Shakuni, Duryodhana and Dushasan used to be jealous of Pandavas.Shakuni, Duryodhana, and Dusasana plot to get rid of the Pandavas. Shakuni summoned architect Purochan and said that to build a palace of flammable materials named Lakshagraha like lacquer and ghee. However, the wise uncle of Pandavas Vidur gets to know his cleverness and he already orders to dig a tunnel from Lakshagraha. He warns them to go out by that tunnel whenever palace got fire. Pandavas does the same and they come out of hiding to protect themselves. After that in Hastinapur, Pandavas and Kunti were believed to be dead.

After avoiding the Lakshagraha, they remain hidden in the forest for a few days. They get to know the swayamvara competition in the state of Panchal. It was announced that whoever wins in this Swayamra will be married to Draupadi. In this competition, the candidate has to an eye of moving fish on the ceiling, while looking at its reflection in oil below. Most of the princes failed, many being unable to lift the bow. however, Arjuna got success. The Pandavas return home and inform their mother that look at Arjuna has won a special thing in the competition. Without looking, Kunti asks them to share whatever it is Arjuna has won among themselves. Then the five brothers had to marry Draupadi.

After marriage, Dhritarashtra and Gandhari came to know that Pandavas are alive, they called Pandavas. Pandavas returned to Hastinapur. After their returning, the kingdom was divided into Kauravas and Pandavas. Pandavas were given a new state named Indraprastha, which is today known as Delhi.

A Demon named Maya created the wonderful palace of illusion called Maya Sabha in Indraprastha. But after a while, he starts losing the things and he lost his kingdom. He then even gambles his brothers, himself, and finally his wife into servitude. In the end, He lost everything.

After all, jubilant Kauravas became cruel and start insulting the Pandavas. EEven after defeating them with deceit, they were speaking them dirty abuse. This was not only the end of their Cruelty, Duryodhana ordered his brother Dushasana to undressed Draupadi in front of the entire court. He starts to pull her saree, But Lord Krishna saves his honour by raising her saree. He is tired of pulling her saree but it does not come to the end.

Dhritarashtra, Bhishma Pitamaha, and other elders started an action to stop this situation, but Duryodhana determined to not give them their kingdom. Against his wishes, Dhritarashtra ordered to play another dice. This time, the condition of Dice was if Pandavas lose, they will have to go to exile for 13 years. at last, they lost the dice again and went for exile

The Pandavas spent thirteen years in exile or They had faced many adventures and problems during this time. When they returned from the forest, they asked to return their Indraprastha, But selfish and greedy Duryodhana refused bluntly to return. Pandavas were forced to fight. Then War became inevitable.

A few days later, the war of Mahabharata started in Kurukshetra. According to the promise given to his mother Satyavati, Bhishma Pitamaha was with the Kauravas army. Karan as being a friend and Dronacharya as being a Rajyaguru both were with the Kauravas army. On the other hand, Lord Krishna was the charioteer of Arjuna.

On the other hand, Both the armies wanted to take Lord Krishna with them, but he refused to fight. Duryodhana demanded his army and Arjun asked him to remain with him, thus Lord Krishna became the charioteer of Arjun.



Just before the commencement of the battle of Mahabharat, Arjuna had fallen into a dilemma and refuses to fight against his own kin, including his great grandfather Bhishma and his teacher Drona. Lord Krishna, who had been the sole advisor and true friend of the Pandavas and helped them all through the time of troubles, imparted him the righteous nature of the Mahabharat war and encouraged him to fight the battle without hesitation. He taught valuable and practical lessons of the great Indian epic, Bhagawad Gita. Arjuna needed to Lord Krishna’s advice and after that, he decided to fight.

After Krishna’s Gita preaching, Arjuna announced the war by playing a conch named Devadatta. On the very first day, Bhim attacked Dushasan and Abhimanyu cut Bhishma’s bow and chariot flag, but the soldiers of the Pandavas were killed by Bhishma Pita. At the end of the first day, the Pandav party suffered heavy losses.

On the second day, the Kauravas were very heavy on Pandavas. But on the third and fourth day, the Kauravas had to suffer and the Pandavas were strong. Till the next four days, both sides lose their army equally.

On the tenth day of Mahabharat, after Lord Krishna says to him repeatedly, Arjun shot an arrow in Bhishma with the help of Shikhandi (neither man nor woman) and after that, he started to pierce his whole body with the arrows.

On the thirteenth day, Kauravas creates the Chakravyuh, and due to Arjun’s absence, Abhimanyu had to go to that maze. In the Chakravyuh, Kauravas like Karan, Duryodhana, and all kill Abhimanyu with deceit.

In the next three days, Jaidrath, Dushashasan, Guru Dronacharya, Karna, Surgical Shakuni, and 22 brothers of Duryodhana are killed.

In the last day, Duryodhana ran away after Seeing his defeat and hid in the column of the Sarovar. When the hidden Duryodhana is challenged by the Pandavas.He makes a muddy battle against Bhima and at the behest of Lord Krishna, Bhima kills him by attacking his thigh with deception. Thus Pandavas are victorious.

The Mahabharat war lasted for only 18 days and the Pandavas won the battle. They ruled over Hastinapura for a number of years. It is said that Dhritarashtra and his wife retired into the forest to lead a life of an ascetic. Krishna is believed to leave around thirty-six years after the battle. When the Pandavas felt that it was time to leave this earth, they all set out on a journey towards the North on foot. It is said that the gates of Heaven were open for them on the northern horizon.
